Owl Creek Farm 2024 ChickensThis heat is something else. I think almost everyone reading this is in a region affected by the current (mid-July 2024) heatwave, you all know what I mean. The farm animals don’t seem affected but we’re making sure the chickens and goats have lots of clean water to drink, and they’ve got access to lots of shade. The dogs, cats, and people, however, aren’t faring so well. Being acclimated to Canada is fantastic for in the winter when it’s colder than -20c, it’s not so great when the heat skyrockets passed normal summer temps.

We’ve been giving the chickens watermelon and apple core scraps (minus the seeds because the internet can’t decide if they’re safe or not) and they’ve come to absolute love them. It’s fun to watch them attack the bits, especially when one grabs something it thinks is special and hightails it out of there, lest it be stolen!
